It annoys me, im in Australia and they all call it soccer here. Why do these games have different names that seem so inapropriate. ie: american football, thats played with yer hands, or Aussie rules footie which is just a big excuse for a punch up with a few kicks thrown in for entertainments value.Let me enlighten you......... It was widely called Soccer, 50 years ago in this country (in my youth). So, it is not a modern invention; I don't see the problem.WHY IS NATIONAL TEAM CALLED SOCCER ROOS?I'm with you all the way.especially the Americans calling their silly game football. Anyone who has seen that game ,if only for a minute will know that the ball is in their hands more than it is on the ground. We English should stick together and refuse to acknowledge the word soccer and tell any Americans we meet about the " Beautiful game " FOOTBALL as it is played in England ! OK I concede that some European and S. Americans have some good teams !yesnope everyone can call it as they wish.NO. IT IS STILL FOOTBALL. WHY BE BOTHERED?makes me wanna pull me hair outtry calling rugby, football ! but yet every rugby club is known as R.F.C. its actually quite sensible to call it soccer, to distingish it from all the other wannabe sports of a similar name.
but its football to me and always will be.I know where you are coming from.....
Soccer is a corruption of Association in the Football Assciation the original body that codified the rules of football, and the body that still exisits today as the the FA (Football Association, hence it became known as soccer, footie and various other names. I suppose it depends how it is spellt if its football then it can be any game that is recognised as football (Rugby, ARL, American etc..), if its Football.. then there can only be one meaning
many other sports have football in their name or their organising bodies name, eg
Rugby Football Union, Rugby Football League
I find it easier to think of American football as alleged men holding handbags having a semi organised brawl, Rugby Union is sort of going the same way, League & Aussie Rules just seem like organised brawls (but far more entertaining than Rugby Union or American Football.the clue is in the name.Oh it annoys the **** out of me. The whole world know it as Football, its the USA and the Aussies that acll it soccer. I saw an interview with Shevchenko who said he also hated his game being called soccer, so were in good company. I like Aussie rules, but vests and tight shorts really should be left to the ladieswhen they call it the full name like "american football" then no problem. Imagine some people say lets watch the football then it can be a probem. If it turns out to not to be football but a loads of suited up padded pansies stopping and starting every 10 seconds then . (american football)As an American who loves both real football and American football, it's just weird trying to deal with following Champions League football and the NFL. So different under the same name.
Who even came up with the name "soccer"? At least basketball, there's a basket. Football (real football), you use your feet. Baseball, there's bases. But soccer......?its known as soccer the world over apart from england where it is football and hungary where it is labdarugas#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
