  • How many people in India are chronically hungry? http://www.deeshaa.org/2004/06/27/hunger-in-india/ "Over 200 million, or about one-fifth of India?s population, is chronically hungry." How many of them are children (5 yrs or younger)? http://www.deeshaa.org/2004/06/27/hunger-in-india/ "A 2002 government survey concluded that 48% of children under five years old are malnourished." http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2006-05/12/content_4536170.htm "afflicts 60 million children in India" How many children died (5 yrs or younger)? http://www.deccanherald.com/deccanherald/apr172005/tavleen.asp "This is a state, let me remind you, where nearly 10,000 children died of starvation last year" (this is just one state) http://folk.uio.no/danbanik/phdthesis.htm "2.5 million children in India die every year before reaching the age of five." I hope this answers your question. Please post a request for clarification if any further information is needed.

  • Thanks for the help! All of the questions were answered except for "How many people died last year form hunger-related problems in India?" The question is asking for the total number, not just children. Please help answer this if you can.

  • My apologies, I spent a lot of time looking for the answer to that question and couldn't find a good answer. I went on and finished answering the other question, but forgot to go back and answer this question. I just spent another hour looking for this information and have come up only with the following: This study states that malnutrition related deaths are responsible for 14.9% of deaths in developing countries. http://www.who.int/docstore/peh/burden/wsh00-7/Methodan6-5.htm "When compared to other major risk factors in developing countries quantified in the original burden of disease study, this ranks below malnutrition (14.9% of deaths...)" The author of this study didn't have this number either. http://www.earthwindow.com/grc2/foodrights/HumanRightToFoodinIndia.pdf "In their data keeping, international agencies such as the United Nations Children?s Fund and the World Health Organization do not even keep records on starvation deaths. No one does." "To that number must be added a large but unknown number of adults who succumb for the same reason." (speaking of death by malnutrition related illness) I'm sorry that I was unable to find this for you. I hope that the above information will be sufficient for your needs. Thanks!

  • yes, this information is enough. thanks for the help!
