my rat just picked up a smartie off my dressing table, he has it in his mouth and i cant get it off him. how do i get him to drop it. just take it off him, pull it off him if necessary. Chocolate is NOT good for rats.yeah i agree with most people, let him have it,it wont hurt him, he might get mad if you try and take it away, good luckShow him an orange one instead, no one can resist the orange!trick himLet him have it, it won't hurt him. Its dogs that can't eat chocolate. You would have to give him more than one, in fact more than one tube, to do him any harm.ah a smartie wont hurt him. a little chocolate isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is.
if you really want to take it from him pick him up and pull it out of his mouth. you are larger then he is.let him eat it
then dont feed him anything for a while
the sugar wont be bad if he just relaxes for a while
let him eat it

WAT R ALL U PPL TALKING ABOUT? SMARTIES ARE NOT CHOCOLATE! i feed my rats a piece of chocolate the size of a yogie once a month.Let him have it. I've given my rats an occasional Smartie in the past. It's a nice 'junk food' treat, and it has no ill side effects.
Just keep your candy out of his reach in the future.
EDIT: Apparently, there are two types of Smarties. The sugary treat, and a chocolate treat. Both are fine for a rat to eat on rare occasions. Chocolate is not dangerous to rats like it is to dogs & cats.Pick him up and open his mouth!!! Make sure he doesn't bite you, if he's a biter... rather not do this.
(Sorry, not very many ideas!!!)the people above me are talking about chocolate. smarties arent chocolate i thought oranges can kill rats???????? it did to my mice, but i guess rats are different.*snicker* I'd just let him have it.
