Sportsman's personal hero

  • Who is Tiger Woods' hero?

  • Who is Tiger Woods' (the golfer) non-sportsman hero?

  • kpsydney-ga, I've been working on your question since it was first posted, and I must say, your clarification threw me a bit. Most of Tiger Woods' heroes are, in fact, sports figures, which isn't all that surprising given Wood's single-minded focus on his own sport. Jackie Robinson is an idol of Tiger's for his boldness and fortitude in breaking the color barrier in baseball. Jack Nicklaus is also a big hero of Tiger's, and he grew up with the goal of trying to top some of Nicklaus' seemingly untoppable records. A number of other golfers make Tiger's personal 'heroes' list as well. As for non-sports figures, there are mentions of only a few -- some civil rights leaders, and Tiger's father. However, these are just the briefest of mentions, and I have not seen any text that really elaborates on how/why Tiger Woods settled on these particular people as his personal heroes. Would just having the names, and the source where they are cited, meet your needs as an answer to your question (it would be a short answer!)? If not, what sort of additional information were you hoping to have? Let me know. pafalafa-ga

  • Hi pafalafa-ga, Firstly, thanks very much for your help! I actually don't need an explanation on why Tiger has said certain people are his heroes - I just need to know who they are! Just the names and the source where it's cited would be perfect. Time's running out! Thanks heaps.

  • Thanks for getting back to me on this. Your question actually turned out to make for a very challenging search. Since Tiger Woods himself is a hero to so many, searching on his name along with the word [ hero ] turns up oodles of stories about Tiger-Woods-as-hero, but nothing much on who Tiger Woods' heroes may be. But with some persistence -- and searches of multiple databases -- I was able to turn up a list of Tiger Wood's personal heroes, both sports figures and otherwise. I've listed them below, with just the citation, and the name of the person mentioned as a hero of Tiger Woods, since this seemed to be the information you wanted to focus on. If you need any additional context, though, just let me know. pafalafa-ga =============== The Herald (Glasgow) November 20, 1996 Tiger takes the top billing Martin Luther King Malcolm X Arthur Ashe Arnold Palmer Jack Nicklaus Greg Norman USA TODAY June 13, 1997 Nike unveils Tiger Woods logo Earl Woods (Tiger's dad) Florida Times-Union (Jacksonville) March 18, 2001 Cooling off period?
