Will u be embarrassed?

  • tmr is my first lesson on playing pool,i will be going overseas to learn and my dad will be coaching me. i dunno anything abt pool at all. i m afraid i cant hit the ball and other ppl might laugh at me...saying i m lousy.. etc...

  • Hi Stanley,

You have a lot going for you, in that:

You've never played pool before - You have NO bad habits to break. With a good coach, you'll learn proper technique - a HUGE 'plus'!

You can't compare your progress (or lack thereof) to your past performance, as you are new to the game. -- GET EXCITED!

You'll learn soon enough whether pool is for you. No one can make that decision but you. You'll either like the game and want to improve, or not. However, be patient, and give yourself a fair amount of time and practice, before you draw any conclusions.
If you like the 'feel' of the game, you'll be excited about it and want to improve your skills.

    As for being embarrassed:

If you keep your attention on what YOU are doing, and are tuned in to what your coach/instructor is teaching you, you'll never give a single thought to what others are doing or thinking.

You'll find that in playing pool, most every other player in the pool hall, is thinking and concentrating on their own shooting and their own games --- not yours.

Be grateful for the opportunity and make the most of it. You'll learn a lot about yourself, your temperament, and your 'will' to set your mind to accomplish the task at hand.

Enjoy yourself at all cost. Pool is a great game of skill, problem-solving, patience, and intrigue. There is no room for embarrassment, when your mind is zoned in on learning how to play pool, and the excitement, and the ups and downs, that come with playing pool.

Keep an open mind and keep your attention on what you're doing. Pool is not a popularity contest. It's a very personal game (as you will learn).

If you are listening to ANYONE outside and away from your table, you're not paying attention to what you're doing, which CAN pose a problem for YOUR game. Stay focused on your game. Concentration and focus, is a pool lesson in itself.

Finally -- remember that the world's best pool players ALL started out with ZERO knowledge of pool or how to wield a pool cue. Everyone had their "first pool" experience.

    It's your turn!

Have fun, and enjoy the opportunity and one of the greatest games there is: POOL!

    Best wishes to you -

    LAG

  • I wouldn't be embarrassed. If you so happen to not to make the ball in make fun out of yourself like laugh and say wow that was awesome. Learn from your mistake. I mean what will life be if you don't challenge yourself.

  • Well, don't worry what others think. It's not that big of a deal. It's just a game, right? If I were you I'd join a league now...while you are new and on the low end of your game. As you get better will make it easier for you to win tournaments and stuff....honestly, a lot of teams are ALWAYS looking for new players (handicap leagues APA and such). This will help you a few ways, build confidence, see things better players do, and have that team commradity. Most good teams have at least 1 or two guys that would help teach you a whole lot. Yeah....but don't worry about what others think, have a good time.
